Welcome to the first edition of Greenlit Media’s newsletter, The Emerald Effect. To our loyal followers who have brought their eyes to this new medium, I thank you for the continued support. To those who are unfamiliar with Greenlit, our newsletter and what we are all about, allow me to elucidate.
Born out of passion, fueled by innovation
I started Greenlit Media in the fall of 2023 with the goal of combining my passion for multimedia storytelling with my emerging aptitude for entrepreneurship. Motivated by pillars in the media industry such as Roland Martin, Ed Bradley, Joe Madison and Max Robinson, I gradually developed Greenlit into a multimedia portfolio that houses stories rooted from my unique perspective as a Black college student situated in the city of Atlanta.
Utilizing photography, videography, graphic design and podcasting, Greenlit has produced stories in collaboration with student government associations, clothing brands, celebrity actors and various other individuals and institutions with an African American focus. And now with our brand ever advancing towards a more diverse content strategy, I believe the addition of this newsletter to Greenlit’s offerings will be a game changer.
The stone the builders accepted
While I was researching ideal names for the newsletter, the thought of incorporating “emerald” into the title immediately hit me. The spiritual meaning of an emerald holds many different depictions that go as far back as the Ancient Egyptian era, tying specifically to the Egyptian god Thoth and the emerald tablet. An emerald represents truth, love, wisdom and intuition; all qualities that I envision the Emerald Effect will echo in its storytelling.
While my target audience is African American, I want to make it clear that the stories I create on this platform are boundless. I strive to have this newsletter mirror the diversity of thought, experience and exposure within me and, in essence, the Black community. Whether it’s news, entertainment, sports or culture, The Emerald Effect will set itself apart in that just like its namesake, its diversity will glisten in every new edition.
